I enjoy the way laughter makes you feel. The way you loose control over yourself at the humor you found in whatever was said, or happened. Very rarely do I burst out into fits of uncontrolled laughter, but when I do, I try and enjoy them as much as possible.
Today, on my way to work, I was sitting at an intersection and heard a man yelling at people to move out of his way as he rode his bicycle down the sidewalk, at a nice, high paced speed. His final act of yelling came as he sped toward a young couple walking hand in hand, causing them to jump to the side as the man on the bicycle glared at them. This is why he did not see the bench for the bus stop.
When he slammed into the side of the bench, it was one of those moments where you knew, Karma had been waiting for him. He and his bike, flipped forward, crashing across the length of the bench, before the man crashed to the ground. Now, the couple that had been walking together, I must give the gentleman credit, because it is due. He walked over to the man on the ground and offered him a hand up. A noble, well intended gesture, which the man on the ground did not appreciate, and smacked the man’s hand away as he stood up. Again yelling, he turned and ran into the sign for the bus stop.
When I finally realized that the light was green, I looked toward the other drivers around me, and found them laughing as hard as I was. That just made it better, because I understood that all of these people, myself included, had their morning start with laughter.
I wanted to share this with you today so that, if you were not fortunate enough to see such a thing this morning, I want that same feeling for you through your day. So, when you are stressed out today, or just feeling down, think of a cat falling off of a couch. Or better yet, do what I do sometimes, find laughter in other people’s concern. I want you to mumble to yourself when a lot of people are around, and when someone asks if you are alright, or asks what you said, simply stand up with a straight face and say, “There’s no evidence!” and walk away. Or start barking, that’s a fun one too.
Learn to bark a little more. Enjoy what you do.
