On So’Var, the rough men and women that do not want to live under the boot of another, or want to live in a fashion that is outside of the norm for their station, become Avin’dar.
The Avin’dar has many other names, it just depends on who you ask. Murderer. Explorer. Warrior. Adventurer. Extortionist. Thief. Mercenary. The names may change, but the overall function is the same. The Avin’dar are who you hire, to do the the jobs nobody else will do, or nobody else wants to do.
The purpose for an Avin’dar being in an area, is usually very unclear, and due to this many common folk treat the Avin’dar with an air of mystery, and as some type of low noble, often calling them Sir or Ma’am for caution’s sake. Common folk also tend to group all Avin’dar into aspects depending on past experience, so an Avin’dar that has entered an area where another Avin’dar has robbed the common folk in the past, will have trouble getting them to believe his purpose is anything other than what they think.
The nature of the Avin’dar allows them to cross borders without having to worry about affiliations, or allegiances. However, this also creates difficulty for them when moving across borders that are at war, because one side, or in some cases both, see the Avin’dar as a tool being used by the other side, as a spy.
Due to their lack of affiliation or allegiance, the Avin’dar can find themselves hired by a wide range of people, from a group of common folk who have pooled their coin together, to the Church or even a local Lord. The only affiliation that many Avin’dar have, is to their guild, which they usually join to find work. Independent Avin’dar, those not tied to a guild, are hard to find, but cheaper to hire usually.
The Avin’dar is in many ways, the wandering warrior, with ties to nothing, and no one.
