The change of Fall 1

Not many people know this, but fall and spring have always had a special place in my heart.

Fall has always been a very visual reminder of change to me. The way the air stirs, and the wind seems to rise as the colder air shifts in. The crispness of the air, and the little bite it starts to get. The change in the trees as their leaves shift to the different ranges of colors, before they start falling to the ground, covering it in a crunchy carpet, made for kicking. How the night comes on sooner, giving you an excuse to stay in bed, tucked away under heavy, warm blankets, waiting for the first fall of snow.

For many people, change can be a very scary thing, filled with doubt, uncertainty, and even dread. I will admit, to a degree, I am one of those people. I am also one of those people that looks forward to change. Change has to occur in order for you to grow as a person. It does not mean however, that things around you, will not change also. In order for change to truly be effective, you must be prepared to embrace it. You must be able to look at yourself honestly. What are the good things about you? What are the bad? If you can look at yourself, and not hide the truth, or disguise it as something it is not, then you have set yourself on a path of successful change. If you are willing to admit your faults, along with the traits that are good, then you can look at making a change for the better.

I like seeing change over time. Those moments that are frozen from the past, captured in a photograph. I know a woman who scrap books, taking all of her photos and putting them in a binder along with quotes, captions, and little tidbits of information to accompany them. I love looking at these. The creativity in them always surprises me, although I do not really know why, she is a very creative person in general, but I think perhaps, that it is the joy and care in which they are done. Looking at them, I love the change that occurs as you turn the pages. Seeing an image from that person’s childhood, and watching it progress through the years, showing the change with every turn of the page. And with each turn of those pages, the captions, sometimes a single word, can explain everything you need to know about the images you see. It is the change that you see, with a simple turn of a page.

Most forms of change do not happen in this method, but if you are having difficulty in dealing with the change you find yourself in, think of it as a scrap book. Turn the pages in your mind. Allow yourself to see the change, captured in a single moment, but when you do it, do not lie to yourself about it. In that scrap book, and that image you see, add the other images from your mind, the good and the bad. Study them fully, before turning to the next page.

I do not know if the advice I give, or the insight I share, is helping anyone or not, but I truly hope it does in some form.

Fall Is Change. Enjoy what you do.

I have learned to see Fall in the same light as I see bedtime rituals. It’s the end of the day, I’ve worked long and hard. Stress has been felt and dealt with. Frustrations and successes have been had. Now it’s time to get myself out of that world, and into a much, much better one. Wiping away the worry and doubt. Enjoying an adult beverage to calm the nerves and take a touch of the edge off. Brushing away the grime. Soothing myself for a restful slumber and renewing myself for the attack of the next day.

Spring isn’t far away, and Summer is a difficult time for our little blue ball of awesomeness. Fall is that treat. That special time. Inward focused. Transition from dealing with so much, do dealing with the internal. It is easly my favorite season.
