Their parents marched them through the house and off to their beds,
And fluffed their pillows to rest their heads.
It was time for all to lay down and sleep,
because Santa himself had a schedule to keep.
Their parents made sure to tuck them nice and snug,
finishing off with a kiss and a great big hug.
Their parents smiled as they had some news to share,
Santa was moving their way, with love and care.
The door shut and the children planned and they plotted,
because even the news said Santa had been spotted.
This year was different for all the children, there were things to do,
They were going to finally catch Santa in the act and their excitement grew.
The children wanted to see Santa in their home,
how he entered, and where he would roam.
Would he like the cookies, and the milk, and all the rest,
would the elf report on exactly who, was the best?
Long into the night, the children smiled and questioned,
the motives of a man, and the children wanted the answer to that lesson.
The sound of tiny bells reached their little ears,
and they smiled as they always had, for quite some number of years.
The children crept to the door, and out into the hall,
the dancing of lights, blue, red, and green, showed on the wall.
As they children looked down into the living room and the tree it held,
their eyes and their hearts, had suddenly swelled.
Because there was Santa, laying down some nicely wrapped gifts,
each hand moving in opposing shifts.
The children marveled at their normal Christmas tree,
the one they had gotten, after looking at three.
The tree moved and its lights and bulbs swayed,
as the ornaments jumped and played.
The children watched as Santa moved, rushing through the area like, ZOOM,
placing presents and gifts all across the room.
All the bulbs on the tree flashed then became very bright,
and once they had dimmed, Santa was nowhere in sight.
The children came into the living room and looked all around,
there were gifts and presents, but Santa was not to be found.
The children were surprised that Santa was so fast, done and through,
and they all sighed as they smiled and said, “But I saw you”.
The children returned to their beds, smiling as they went,
happy they had seen Santa, and considered it, time well spent.
In the morning they told their parents about the late night encounter,
but they had so many questions that they wanted to ask, not having the opportunity, was kind of a downer.
All the children stopped as their eyes found a letter, next to the empty, plate and glass,
a nice scrawl of ink, showed a tree, and a great big “S”.
The parents walked over, and began to read through,
and smiling at the children, they said it was from you know who.
The children begged and they pled,
so the parents spoke and this is what it said.
Dear children, I know that you saw me, going about my work,
but i could not stay, because I had other places I could not shirk.
I wanted to thank you for understanding, and next year we will see,
if I have time to visit, maybe have a cup of tea.
The power of Christmas comes from children,
it is like the best dream ever, times a billion.
Thank you for understanding that I had to go, lots of things to do,
But before that, i wanted to say, that I believe in you too.
Merry Christmas. Enjoy what you do.
