Heroes & Idols 1

I talk a lot about inspiration, and topics that motivate me.

In doing so, I hope to show you, to guide you really, to look closer at the people around you. To become more personal with them, for the benefit of both of you. When you take the time to look at someone, to find that mystery in them, you can be very surprised by what you find.

One such person in my life, is someone who inspires me, without knowing it.Β  That person does not know I am even saying this, so we will call him Frank.

Frank is pretty entertaining. Frank is one who, when he laughs, he laughs. Frank puts himself in such a state when laughing, that he has trouble breathing, while turning red and trying to laugh more. Frank is also gay.

When I think of what Frank had to cope with, when he was younger. High school, and questioning his sexuality. The personal, moral judgement he must have put himself through. The fear, of coming out. The anger directed at him when he did come out, and the hate from some people. The anxiety, concern, fear, and terror, he must of felt when he went to tell his family that he was gay. What would they say? Will they still love me? Will they hate me?

Frank is a fairly amazing person in his own right. All of that doubt, and Frank had the strength to be himself, to face those fears, and tell those he loved, that he was gay. Something spoken with three simple little words, that carried enough emotional dynamite, to level his world, and what did he do? Frank looked his family in the face and said those three words, “I am gay”.

However, it was worded… True bravery and courage. Anyone should be proud to know someone with that much courage, and be inspired by them.

On the flip side of that, it could not have been an easy thing to hear by the family he told. They accepted Frank for who he was though, and the love they gave him, did not change. Another act worthy of admiration.

If you look to those around you, the greatness you can find, is worthy of epic poems, and songs that carry through time. Those around you, are heroes and idols. Tell them. Let them know that the courage, love, and admiration you hold for them is without bounds, and be happy yourself. You can be happy because, you are a part of that hero, or idol’s life, and they could think the exact same thing of you.

Admire someone. Enjoy what you do.
